hen summer comes, I love to take a walk with my daughter every day. For a while we went at noon, but that became a headache because of the hot sun. It would take me forever to get her ready to go, and it seemed like a lot of work for a short walk. Instead I tried to take her out after dinner was over, but we also ran into quite a few problems.

The biggest problem was bugs, and this wasn't just on our walk. For some reason there seems to be more bugs around where I live in town than what I had every run into when I lived in a rural area. In fact, if I want to spend any time outside near dusk I have to have a citronella candle with me at all times.

I never had to use a citronella candle when I was a kid. Though there were bugs, they never bothered me very much. That might have been because I was a kid, but the bugs never bothered my mom that much either.

It seems that the bugs are more numerous than they were back then, and that seems odd considering I live in town. Each time I go out to buy a citronella candle I shake my head in wonder and ask myself if there really are more bugs or if I am turning into a wimp.

I don't know what they answer is, but I do know. I really need the citronella candle. There are clouds of gnats that hang out in my yard and I cannot seem to get away from them. I wish I could easily take a citronella candle with me when I go for a walk in the evening because it seems there is a new cloud of gnats waiting for me every ten feet.

I thought at first the same bunch was following me around, but I realized this wasn't true when I saw my husband walking towards me swatting at the air. The little buggers are everywhere.

Though a citronella candle does not work as well as some of the newer things on the market, I like to use them just the same. They are cheaper for the most part, and we don't spend enough time in my back yard to warrant buying something more expensive.

Come to think of it, we spend more time in the country at my mom's house, and we have no need for a citronella candle there. Perhaps the gnats are just a problem near my house, which of course would be just my luck.
